The Sunset Painting is a quest objective given by Ambrose as he unravels the mysteries of the girl in his dream. It is one of the first few green quests (green = subquest, red/purple = main quest, blue = daily quest) you will encounter during your novice days as it immediately appears on your minimap when your character is around level 10.

This is the area where Ambrose would be located.
If I remember correctly, doing the main (reds) quest chain in the South Gate, specifically after being asked to escort a Baphomet Jr., should bring you near Ambrose's location on the map. After a few runs here and there, he will ask you to look for a Sunset Painting in the West Gate map.

If you weren't paying attention to the various hints he tells you, you'll be left searching the whole map of the West Gate to look for the Sunset Painting as it does not appear on your minimap. You actually have to look for it, very much like its twin partner, the Stone Sword. The Sunset Painting also remains hidden from view as soon as you enter the West Gate because of the tall walls surrounding Prontera.

The Sunset Painting should be around here.
When you exit the West Gate portal through Prontera, walk a bit to the top-right until the walls of Prontera do not block your view. You should immediately see a painting on the ground near the garden entrance at the top-right of your minimap. This is the Sunset Painting Ambrose wants you to look for.

Congrats! You've found the Sunset Painting, now to find its twin, the Stone Sword.
